Wheels for Kids Holds Benefit Dinner at McCormick & Schmick’s
Over 100 supporters of Wheels for Kids, including Sharon Quercioli from Sprouts, gathered for the Grand Opening of McCormick & Schmick’s in CityPlace on Friday, February 5 to support a worthwhile cause and enjoy one of the acclaimed eatery’s signature dishes.
Wheels for Kids is a nonprofit organization that provides custom wheelchairs to children with special needs living in Palm Beach County who are unable to purchase them on their own and do not qualify for funding from public or other charitable sources.
“I have been involved with Wheels for Kids since its inception in 2003,” said Quercioli. “It is so rewarding to support an organization that makes such a huge impacted in the lives of children with disabilities. Wheels for Kids gives the gift of mobility by providing children with custom-made electronic wheelchairs.”

“Memories Make a Difference Day” Scrapbooking Fundraising Event helps raise money for the Office Depot Foundation
Sprouts, a long time partner of the Office Depot Foundation, is looking forward to taking part in a “Memories Make a Difference Day” fundraising event on Saturday, February 27 in Boca Raton, FL.
The event hosted by the Office Depot Foundation, in collaboration with Creative Memories is a daylong program for participants who want to learn and enhance their scrapbooking skills and explore new ways to preserve their treasures. The day will be full of fun, raffles, games and prizes! Each participant will receive a light lunch and a bag full of scrapbooking goodies! Funds raise will support the Office Depot Foundation’s programs to assist children and families in our community.

Healing Touch Buddies Holds Fundraiser in PGA Commons
Healing Touch Buddies, Inc. held a fun-filled fundraising event on Thursday, January 21 in the heart of PGA Commons - one of Palm Beach Gardens’ most fashionable shopping districts. The party featured live entertainment, delicious food catered by Zuccarelli’s, wine and champagne, silent auction, raffle and much more.
All net proceeds went to Healing Touch Buddies, Inc. - a local non-profit health and education organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of those challenged with breast cancer; providing patients with Healing Touch and volunteer practitioners with instruction and support. HTB’s additional intention is to gather data on the impact of Healing Touch upon specific symptoms associated with breast cancer and its treatment.
Sprouts, Inc. donated a gift basket toward the silent auction as part of its ongoing commitment to Healing Touch Buddies.
“I’m proud to say that I’ve served on the Board of Directors for HTB since its inception six years ago,” said Sharon Quercioli, owner and founder. “I’m also a healing touch practictioner and can attest personally to the therapeutic benefits of healing touch,” Quercioli added.

Sprouts & Hospice of Palm Beach County Create Partnership

We are proud to announce our new partnership with Hospice of Palm Beach County.
As part of Sprouts mission to give back to the community by partnering with leading nonprofit and charitable organizations, we have teamed up with Hospice of Palm Beach County, a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation that provides hospice care for over 1,200 patients daily throughout Palm Beach County.

Good Time Had By All at the Taste of the Palm Beaches

Over 1,000 people thronged to the 6th Annual Taste of the Palm Beaches in The Gardens’ fashionable PGA Commons shopping district on November 11 as patrons enjoyed delicious samplings from dozens of the area’s top chefs and spirits distributors. The festive event also featured live music, ice carving, bartendering contests and much more. The sumptuous feast’s grand finale was found at Gilded Spa and Salon’s Chocolate Chamber and Bubble Lounge, where an array of mouthwatering desserts and sparkling champagnes awaited discriminating palates.

Many local supporters turned out for the event including Sprouts owner Sharon Quercioli and 24Seven Digital Media Editor in Chief Glenn Swift, who enjoyed the momentous occasion sampling various international cuisine and fine spirits while sharing the evening with friends. Adding a touch of flair to the event were some local celebrities, including well-known broadcast journalist Tim Byrd “The Byrdman.” Overall, it was a spectacular and most successful evening.

Also enjoying the good times was Zuccarelli’s PBG owner, Olimpia Zuccarelli, who recently added a first-class pizzeria to her highly respected family-style restaurant in PGA Commons.
A Great Evening for a Worthy Cause
Besides providing a great time for all, the event’s proceeds went to a noteworthy cause, Big Heart Brigade (www.bigheartbrigade.com), a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide holiday meals and seasonal support to South Floridians in need.

Living Green is not a Dream

The First Annual Living Green Fair was held at John U Lloyd Beach State Park in Dania Beach, FL on November 14th and 15th. The fair went a long way to show the people of South Florida living green is not a dream. Many companies attended the weekend event showcasing everything from consumer products to industrial and commercial industry green alternatives.

Sprouts, a proud event sponsor, provided eco-friendly Plantable Seed Paper Bookmarks for the goodie bags handed out to fair attendees. Sprouts would like to give a big THANK YOU to everyone who came out to see us. Our Sprouts Team was hopping at the Living Green Fair with attendees flocking around our booth. We definitely created a buzz and had an amazing time talking to the people about our plantable seed paper products including greeting cards, bookmarks, and boxes. We made many friends at the event and look forward to growing new business.
Sprouts donated an event booth to Forgotten Soldiers Outreach, Inc., a non-profit organization that sends “we care” packages and letters of encouragement to our deployed men and women in the armed forces. “The Living Green Fair provided a platform for Forgotten Soldiers to raise funds and awareness for their worthy cause,” said Sharon Quercioli, Sprouts president. Fair attendees generously contribute funds while children took the opportunity to write a letter to encourage our soldiers.

Another point of particular interest at the Living Green Fair was the Wyland mural. Wyland, a renowned environmental artist, created an impressive ocean scene mural enlisting the help of many youngsters of all ages. Wyland is the founder of the Wyland Foundation, an organization which strives to teach children and families the importance of preserving the ocean and waterways. The Wyland Foundation teaches these values through public art programs, classroom science education, and live events with a goal of giving children the tools they need to be creative, positive, and solution oriented.

Forgotten Soldiers Outreach Partners with Sprouts to Raise Funds and Awareness

Forgotten Soldiers Outreach, Inc., whose goal is to continually encourage the men and women fighting abroad for our great nation by sending monthly “we care” packages and letters of encouragement to deployed soldiers, has partnered with Sprouts to raise funds necessary for operations.
For some of these men and women the packages and letters written are their only contact back to the United States. Being so far from home can be quite lonely for them, missing all the things they love about our great nation. Sending these letters and packages gives them back a little piece of home. It lets our troops know someone out-there cares about them. Sprouts cares about our men and women in the armed forces that’s why we’re partnering with Forgotten Soldiers Outreach, Inc.
Sprouts is working with Forgotten Soldiers to create a line of custom designed note cards featuring the Forgotten Soldiers logo and Supporting Our Troops images and phrases. A portion of the proceeds from each sale will go directly to Forgotten Soldiers, enabling them to encourage and inspire our armed forces serving overseas.

Canstruction: Sculpture to Fight Against Hunger

Did you ever think about cans of food as works of art? Most of us are familiar with Warhol’s soup can masterpieces, but did you ever think about cans as being used as as sculptural materials? In cities across the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Columbia, artists, architects, engineers, design professionals, and students are creating structural master pieces using can goods! These temporary sculptural works are part of on going exhibitions collectively referred to as Canstruction.
The Canstruction Exhibition Contest was first initiated by the Denver, Seattle, and New York chapters of the Society for Design Administration (SDA). As a foundation of the SDA and though its promotion, there are over one hundred thirty individual competitions being held throughout the 2009-2010 cycle. The sculptures take anywhere from eight to twelve weeks to create, using thousands of cans. These sculptural wonders depict a wide variety of iconographic images ranging from a giant octopus, hotdog, lighthouse, and just about anything one can imagine. The results of competition are displayed for public viewing in cities where the contest is taking place. At the close of the exhibition all the food is donated to local food banks for distribution among emergency feeding programs.
The Lighthouse Center for the Arts in Tequesta is currently hosting its Second Annual Canstruction Exhibition sponsored by The Kitchen Strand. The Kitchen Strand is a premiere South Florida kitchen and bath design firm located in Hope Sound. Thursday, November 5th is the conclusion of the exhibit when the award ceremony will take place. Winners of the contest will be entered into the 2009 National Canstruction Competition. At the end of the evening on November 5th, the exhibition will be dismantled with all cans collected being given to local Palm Beach County food banks to be distributed.
The Lighthouse Center for the Arts is located at Gallery Square North, 373 Tequesta Drive, Tequesta, FL 1.5 miles west of US Highway 1.
The Gallery is open Monday through Friday 10:00 am to 4:30 pm.

The Vanishing Honeybee! Article in 24Seven

In this addition of the digital magazine Sprouts is a proud contributor of content in the Going Green section. Our own Dawn Dodenhoff supplied an article about the plight of the vanishing honeybee. The article goes into detail as to why the honeybees are important and causes to their disappearance. Sprouts is big supporter in trying to save the honeybees with our Bee Kind campaign. We’ve created a special eco-friendly plantable seed paper which blooms into beautiful wildflowers when planted. These wild flowers attract honeybees and other pollinators which are vital to the sustainability of crops which make up a large portion of our food supply.
