Wednesday, SharonQuercioli, Sprouts President, met with Terry Gearing, Director of University Relations for Florida Atlantic University, John D. MacArthur Campus, in Jupiter. The school is celebrating its 10th Anniversary of opening this Fall Semester. During the semester on going events will be taking place in honor of this landmark anniversary.
Terry gave Sharon an extensive tour of the beautiful college campus which ended with an excursion to the lush, on campus, butterfly garden found in the Robert J. Huckshorn Arboretum.
The Robert J. Huckshorn Arboretum is a peaceful place for both students and the community to enjoy nature. Featured within are native plants from four of Florida’s natural eco-systems Tropical Hardwood Hammock, Cabbage Palm/Oak Hammock, Pine Flatwoods, and Mixed Hardwood Swamp. The Arboretum is a part of the university’s commitment to green living. To emphasize their commitment to the environment, every year in October FAU celebrates Sustainability Day (a day where FAU as a community is involved with and the advancing of sustainability through education, operations, and through community engagement).
While at the campus, Terry presented Sharon with the opportunity to assist in the promotion of FAU, John D. MacArthur Campus’s Sustainability Day, to be held on October 21st, 2009. Sprouts will be producing commemorative bookmarks to be passed out at the event.
